What is 'vintage'? What is 'upcycled'?

Etsy's definition of vintage is anything that is 20+ years old - as of now, pre-1999. The vast majority of vintage items have been used before and will display varying signs of wear. An effort is made to weed out newer items that are intended to look vintage. It can be very hard with certain types of items to truly know the age, even with extensive research.

An upcycled item is created with other (often used) items or parts of items. Sometimes upcycled items contain brand new parts, in addition to used. My upcycled items are made with both vintage and new parts.

How do you describe the condition of an item?

All of my items are vintage or upcycled vintage and are listed as being in vintage condition. This means that it is not a new item or an item with all new parts. The condition of the item is specified with the following terms (from worst to best):

Okay/Fair: Several flaws, but item still functions and is usable.
Good: A few flaws, some may be visible during use.
Very Good: A few flaws, most are not visible during use.
Excellent: Almost new condition, no flaws or a tiny flaw or two not visible during use.

Descriptions of flaws will also be provided. Upcycled items will have a mix of conditions listed based on the parts used to create the item.

All customers are advised to read the entire item description and to message me with questions.

Are your items exposed to allergens or cigarette smoke?

Because my items are usually used or have used components, they may have been exposed to smoke, pet dander, or other allergens in the past. Therefore, vintage items are not a good choice for someone with severe allergies. Some items will have an "old" or musty smell to them due to age, but this is different from the smell of mold/mildew.

All items are currently stored in a smoke-free environment. While they are in proximity to dogs and cats, there is no direct contact.

Do you clean your items before selling them?

This depends on the item.

Jewelry: Almost all pieces are cleaned with a gentle jewelry cleanser or wiped with a damp cloth to remove dust. If an item is not at all cleaned (due to fragility), this will be in the condition notes.

Fabric Items: Fabric items are usually not washed if they are in good condition. If an item is washed, it is hand-washed using a gentle detergent or soak and hang-dried.

Decor/Housewares: Glassware is gently washed and dried by hand. Other non-porous items are also hand-washed or wiped with a damp cloth to remove dust. Washing/wiping an item is not done if it would risk damage (e.g. to a hand-painted design). This will be indicated in the condition notes.

How do you pack items to be shipped?

Jewelry and other small items are wrapped in a handkerchief or placed in a small linen bag. Gift wrapped jewelry items are also placed in a black matte gift box. They are then wrapped in bubble wrap and mailed in a bubble mailer or small box.

Larger fragile items are wrapped in bubble wrap and packed in a box with more bubble wrap, packing peanuts, and/or paper.

Things such as scarves, gloves, and ties are folded, wrapped in tissue paper, and mailed in a bubble mailer.

Handbags are packed based on size, any breakable parts, etc. and are sent in an extra padded bubble mailer or a box.

FYI: Some orders will be shipped with recycled/reused materials, such as boxes, mailers, and packing peanuts. This helps to keep costs low.

A note on rhinestones and shipping...

Due to movement, vibrations, and temperature changes during shipping it is possible for rhinestones (and other set stones) to loosen in their settings and sometimes even fall out of their settings. Additionally, the glue in vintage jewelry items is, many times, also vintage, so it is possible for its hold to break during shipping. Packages should be opened carefully in case stones loosened during shipping.

Stones are checked prior to shipping and items are wrapped to minimize impact. If an item arrives with a missing or loose stone (or other part), there are a couple of options. I can provide tips for re-gluing stones if this something you want to do yourself. If not, returns are accepted in accordance with the return policy.

A note on international shipping and customs duties/taxes...

Any foreign taxes/duties/VAT are not included in the prices shown unless you are from Australia, New Zealand, Norway, or the UK. Buyers in other countries may need to pay these fees in order to receive their package and should be notified by their country's mail service.

The USPS customs form on the outside of the package will contain general information on the items in your order and the price paid for each item. This information cannot be changed to avoid taxes and fees. Additionally, a full receipt that lists prices will be included with the package, even if the buyer marks it as a gift.

All international shipping prices include insurance. At this time, I do not ship to countries that the shipping insurance carrier does not cover.

Do you combine shipping?

Yes, Etsy will automatically calculate a combined shipping cost when you purchase more than one item from me within the same order. You can see an estimate of the cost by adding the items you want to your cart and viewing the shipping section on your cart's page.

Occasionally, the shipping cost is miscalculated when ordering multiple items. If the difference between the calculated and actual shipping cost is significant, I will issue a partial refund. If an order's shipping cost is under calculated, the buyer will not be asked to pay the difference unless it is due to the buyer requesting special packaging or shipping services.

Do you accept returns or offer refunds?

Returns on non-sale items are accepted. Contact me within 14 days of receiving your order to work out the details. Returns should be sent back in the original shipping packaging or packaging of similar type/quality within 30 days. Return shipping is at the expense of the buyer. The refund amount will be refunded via the original payment method, as per Etsy's policies. Items not returned in the same condition will not be fully refunded.

In the case of an item arriving to the buyer damaged, a photograph of the damage will be requested for insurance purposes prior to issuing a refund.

Any other requests for refunds will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis. I will always work with buyers to find solutions that are fair for both parties.

Do you offer gift wrap? Can I add a gift message?

Gift boxes are available for select items, including most jewelry and other small accessories, for a reasonable fee. Currently, gift wrap is not offered for large items due to the extra shipping costs.

The gift box option adds a black box with matte finish and a gold hand-stamped flower, starburst, or pattern on the lid. The size of the box will be based on the size of the item. Gift box photos can be found in the About section & on listings that qualify.

Gift messages can be added to any order, even if you opt not to add a gift box. Please include your name in the message if you'd like the receiver to know it is from you. To add a gift message, select “This order is a gift” and then “Add gift message for free” in your shopping cart.
